Gardens are growing strong at Porcher Park Community Garden this week.
There are 33 growing plots in raised garden beds, with crops well under way.
Thirty-one of the growing plots are for individual household resilience and two are growing veggies for donation to the community.
Porcher Park Community Garden is operated by Urban Food Resilience Initiatives Society (UFRIS).

The UFRIS mission is to support household economic resilience and contribute to healthy food supply. People who grow there don’t have their own space for food-growing at home (living in condos or other properties without land).
At Porcher Park Community Garden families are growing fresh vegetables and fruits while also getting to know new people and enjoy the outdoors!

Gardeners at Porcher Park Community Garden are Langford residents.
The raised garden beds are various sizes for small, medium and larger households.
Plants have been grown from seed or as starter plants — including beets, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, chives, kale, beans, peas, cucumber, squash, herbs, and more.
The site has a compost bin, workbenches and and a tool shed. Water is supplied by the City of Langford.
People walking by to enjoy other areas of the park (including a playground and seating areas)are welcome to drop in during daylight hours to see the garden activity.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent. Dogs are not allowed within the fenced area growing area of the garden (except certified service dogs).
This is the first year of operation for Porcher Park Community Garden.
