The Urban Food Resilience Initiatives Society (UFRIS) has three key areas of activity in maintaining fresh food in urban communities.
We continue our work to guide more municipalities to include (and require of developers) food-growing capacity in all urban infrastructure. This helps people grow fresh produce for their own households — even a little bit helps in tough economic times and the food quality can be optimum.
We are also working on food supply as part of seismic disaster response. In preparation for a major earthquake, UFRIS is coordinating with emergency response networks in coastal BC areas to see that produce is stored in solar-powered freezers around Vancouver Island.
Starting in 2026, we will launch our program to help pregnant moms get an easy supply of fresh nutritious groceries on a weekly basis. Food network and perinatal services and organizations are invited to find out more.
New UFRIS members are welcome (wherever you live in BC).
Membership is $5.
Donations in any amount are much appreciated.
