Two raised garden beds at Porcher Park Community Garden (PPCG) are used for growing veggies that get donated to the community.

The gardeners at PPCG have come to know the boxes as 32 and 33.

Urban Food Resilience Initiatives Society (UFRIS) — which operates PPCG on behalf of the City of Langford — is taking our harvested produce to the Living Edge Westshore food market.

The market operates on Fridays out of the Open Gate Church on Sooke Road in Langford.

The market offers a free opportunity for people-in-need to shop for the fresh food items that they need for their household, at no cost.

With their grocery bags, families-in-need may show up on Friday mornings for the market that starts at 11 am to get tokens for that day’s shopping.

Apparently immigrant families prefer the fresh food over canned/packaged that is usually available at other food banks. Also, we hear that families show up there on Pro-D Days (days off school) to get some fresh items for their kitchen.

Living Edge Westshore also receives donated food supply from Thrifty Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart (including milk and other dairy products) and other local produce suppliers, as well as overflow from the nearby Goldstream Food Bank.

Fall season:

The harvest of vegetables for the community will continue at Porcher Park Community Garden into the fall.

A Porcher Park Community Garden harvest season potluck meet-and-greet will be held on Sunday September 28 at the garden, at 828 Wren Place.

Winter gardening officially starts October 16, 2025 at PPCG (inquire about available garden space).
